Negotiation – An un-boon to exponentially flourishing relationships/organisations

Negotiation – An un-boon to exponentially flourishing relationships/organisations When you’re good at something, never do it for free… Joker, The Dark Knight Sounds like a really smart statement to get the most possible in a trade, isn’t it? Ofcourse I share a different perspective… I would rather rephrase it as ‘When you’re good at something, it is the least you can do for free…’ The basic belief in what people are deep with-in is the distinction here… ‘Smart Negotiator’ is someone well renowned on giving least possible to gain maximum possible in a trade. Someone who understands how to reach an agreement which eventually ends up with bigger share of the pie for themselves. There are many ways of doing this; convincing with facts and logic making the deal look a win-win situation, using power driving fear or authority driving rewards. Infact Negotiation in itself is an act to articulate and cap the input and output from a relationship. It is derived f...

Need-Emotion – A Complex system

Image
Need-Emotion – A Complex system The below article is an extract from my book ‘being Emotionally street-smart’. It gets a little technical and would need background in theoretical understanding of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. Emotions Out of all the experiences we carry, our journey with Emotions is the oldest. Emotions have been with us since birth and we all have our understanding and Individual theory about what they are, how they work, how to make the best of them, etc. The simple way Emotions can be defined is representation of satisfied or unsatisfied Needs (Maslow chacha ki theory for Needs) . When you Desire something and achieve more than expected, you experience positive Emotions like joy, happiness, delight, etc. and in the event of not achieving what is Desired, you experience negative Emotions like sadness, anger, frustration, etc. Does this also mean that people, who constantly achieve exactly what they predicted, do not feel extreme Emotions? Yes it ...

TNA – Building on strengths way...

TNA – Building on strengths way... Training Need Analysis is very important aspect which would drive productivity of the entire organisation… So let us spend some time in philosophically understanding what exactly TNA does… While driving increased productivity we are talking about driving Change in the way things work. We identify the target followed by what is ‘Ideally’ needed to achieve the target and then finally evaluate what we have and what’s missing as compared to ‘Ideal’ list… When we do the same with human competencies by comparing what is and what’s missing with ‘Ideal’ list of competencies required, we are doing an analysis to derive at what trainings are to be imparted… Simple enough, isn’t it? What we have always been doing, hence what we find easy to do is look for what’s missing and train people on it. We focus on what’s wrong in the system as compared to ‘Ideal’ requirement. Over a period of time we develop an excellent eye for detail to pick on what’s ...

Gyan on AI – Appreciative Inquiry

Gyan on AI – Appreciative Inquiry Appreciative Inquiry is a philosophy, an approach to doing everything in life focusing on getting the best of people! Change is inevitable, but the outcome of the change to be positive is a choice we can make… We all have our understanding about how things work and especially how people work (how human mind works). What makes people do what they do. What drives people. While aiming at better outcome we are talking about driving Change in the way things work. We have tried and tested approach to drive people motivation and it’s done well for us. We identify the target followed by what is ‘Ideally’ needed to achieve the target and then finally evaluate what we have and what’s missing as compared to ‘Ideal’ list. Once we’ve established the list, we focus on what’s missing and fix it aiming at ‘Ideal’ state. We do that for everything we deal in life, including our organisations. That is how we manage business, manage processes, manag...

Flourishing Organisations – The People Way

Image
Flourishing Organisations – The People Way It is a very common practice in Indian to run companies with hierarchy of Management and Employees... In 80s when it was Employer driven market and scarcity of jobs had made people used to in-humane practices as part of life... I still remember people telling me 'Naukri' matlab 'na karne wala kaam'... Lately the market is more-of Employee driven and organisations are compelled to invest more in keeping them motivated. These initiatives are limited to few Recreation and RnR activities… The concern lies in Management's high-headedness... I was chatting with a friend today on similar lines... Bosses assume themselves intellectually superior than employees and hence look at them as mere machines or commodities... There's only 'so much' a person can deliver, hence the entire focus is on squeezing what you give to them in return... The focus on increasing productivity to investment ratio lies in finding th...

Human Communication and Technology

Human Communication and Technology Technology has made the world very small, brought everyone closer than ever before. We have seen and experienced amazing benefits of technology; however, we still have people (mainly from pre-internet revolution era) who do not find technology as a boon. Is it just their resistance to change or is there really something they know is left behind in technology’s race? Let’s find out… Technology has brought information sharing at very fast paced and easily available platform. Basically it is helping Human Beings communicate faster than before. Usually Quantity and Quality go inversely proportional as a general rule. So are we losing on quality of communication in rush of communicating fast? To answer this we need to understand what Communication is and further what does quality of communication mean. We understand that Human beings use their 5 senses to capture information which is stored as experience. More the input from each of the se...
